NIWI Nurse
in Washington Internship
Purpose
The Nurse in Washington Internship
Program provides nurses the opportunity to learn how to
influence health care through the legislative and regulatory
processes. Participants learn from health policy experts and
government officials, network with other nurses, and visit
members of Congress.
Laura Phearman- President Elect of
the Iowa Affiliate will be attending NIWI 2007. She is the
recipient of a WOCN scholarship.
Iowa Affiliate
WOCN members Kiane Goebel, Bev Folkedahl and Lee Ann Krapfl
meet with Senator Tom Harkin while attending the Nurse in
Washington Internship.

Members meet with
Representative Carolyn McCarthy. Representative
McCarthy is one of three nurses in the Congress and is a
champion for nursing and health related issues. |
Liz Bretch and Lee Ann
Krapfl (both from Iowa) meet with Senator Tom Harkin and
his legislative staff to discuss reauthorization of
Title VIII Nurse Workforce Development. Senator Harkin
is the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations
Subcommittee for Labor, Health and Human Services. |
