Iowa Nurse of the Year 2011 ~
Mary Gloeckner
2011 WOCN Nurse of the Year At the Fall Iowa Affiliate WOCN
Conference Mary Gloeckner was recognized as the WOC Nurse of
the year. Mary was nominated by her manager as being “an
instrumental part of moving wound/ostomy nursing at Trinity
for many years to that “Specialty” care.” She is kind and
committed to her patients and is accessible to them day and
night, answering questions by phone. Mary helped to develop
the Wound/Ostomy department, is well respected by her peers
and physicians, and is the “go to” person for advice on
wound care. She developed skin/wound champions on the
nursing units and her “can do” spirit is exhibited in her
endless caring and professional conduct in moving wound/ostomy
care forward. Mary’s nomination was also supported by a
statement from Bev Folkedahl, who was encouraged and
mentored by Mary to become an ET nurse. Mary precepted Bev
28 years ago and was thanked by her for providing the “gold
standard” of care for her patients. Mary’s commitment to the
patients and the WOC nursing specialty is also exhibited by
her active involvement with the UOA, speaking at National
Conferences, and committee membership on both state and
national levels. Thank you Mary for all you do for your
patients and our profession! The Iowa Affiliate of WOCN is
proud of you!
